Sleeping safely - Needs-oriented beds for seniors

Why needs-oriented beds are important for seniors

Good and, above all, safe sleep cannot be taken for granted in old age. The right bed can make all the difference. For bedridden seniors, however, beds are much more than just a nightly oasis of rest: They serve as a point of care. For a suitable all-round package, wissner-bosserhoff has therefore combined safety and living comfort in its new sentida sc care beds.

Higher demands on nursing beds

According to Spectaris, the statutory health insurance system spends more than 8.5 billion euros annually on medical aids. This includes nursing beds. So it is no wonder that with almost 4.1 million people in need of care in Germany, demand for care beds is high. „Currently, there are almost 16,000 nursing homes in Germany. All of them need special care beds that enable residents to enjoy a high quality of life in the final phase of their lives,“ says Tabea Lanzke. According to the wissner-bosserhoff product manager, the market will continue to grow in the coming years as the number of people in need of care increases. As a result, needs-oriented beds for seniors seem more important and popular than ever before.

„Time for more cosiness,“ is how wissner-bosserhoff advertises the new care beds with extra comfort. Thanks to numerous combination options with high-quality fabric and imitation leather decors, the nursing beds from wissner-bosserhoff bring design and variety to seniors‘ facilities, multi-generation homes etc. „People are getting older and older and have higher demands on nursing care than the generations before,“ Lanzke has noted in recent years. wissner-bosserhoff is responding to this change of mindset and the higher standard of living of the 60+ generation. „Residents should feel at home and live in an aesthetically valuable space,“ she thinks. The result: the new care beds are more reminiscent of high-quality box spring beds of purely functional beds.

Preventing falls from the bed

„We have completely rethought the nursing bed concept once again,“ reports the product manager. Tried-and-tested features, such as the split side rails at the head and foot, have remained. The side elements, on the other hand, which are used to prevent falls at night, can now be flexibly added and are well hidden in the design. „The new SafeFree®Flex offers as much freedom as possible and as much protection as necessary. The protective elements are invisible in the process – so the homely design character is not lost,“ says Lanzke.

It is not only the side guards that help prevent falls from the bed. The extra-low bed position also enables safe sleep. „Residents can lower the bed to 23 cm on their own. A fall from this height would then almost be a slide out,“ says the product manager. Serious falls and complicated fractures can thus be prevented. This is a relief for many seniors. After all, it takes a lot of effort for elderly residents to recover from fall-related fractures.

Digital assistance systems for safe sleep

Additional safety is provided by digital assistance systems, such as SafeSense®3. „This is monitoring in a positive sense,“ smiles Lanzke. The tool consists of a sensor pad that detects movements and pressure changes under the mattress and then transmits them to the caregiver’s smart device. In this way, the digital care assistant gives notification as soon as residents leave the bed or lie down again. „For mobile seniors, this allows the presence status to be checked, and for immobile patients, falls can be detected early.“ Furthermore, the system sounds an alarm in the event of increased moisture in the bed. Nearly 75 percent of all residents in senior facilities suffer from incontinence. Early detection of these minor accidents can prevent infections and pressure sores on the skin. „This also contributes to the safe sleep of seniors.“
