Skin disorders in nursing care

The skin is exposed to many dangers in everyday life. Be it the frequent contact with water, the long wearing of disposable gloves or the constant contact of chemicals. All these factors ensure that the skin of the caregiver is attacked, can rupture or even cause inflammation.

Even if it sounds absurd, frequent hand washing will dry your hands. This will wash away a protective layer of fat on the skin and make the moisture more likely to seep into cracks or deeper layers of it. This is the beginning of a pesky dermatitis.

Solution: Wear gloves

The use of suitable gloves can eliminate this problem in many cases. They not only protect the skin from infections, but also from moisture or other harmful substances. It is important to use the protective gloves only once. With frequent use, they become permeable to bacteria and other pollutants and then provide sufficient protection for the skin. Frequent contact with disinfectants should use chemical-resistant protective gloves.

Disinfectant instead of water and soap

Hand washing is an absolute must in everyday care. However, washing should be kept to a minimum. It is much more advisable to disinfect your hands with hygienic disinfectant. For a successful effect, the dry hands must be rubbed completely with the hand disinfectant – and kept moist for the duration of 30 seconds. Particular attention should be paid to the fingertips and the two thumbs.
