Horizontal repositioning with sliding sheets

In our series „Ergonomic work in nursing professions“ we regularly show tips and instructions for the ergonomic optimization of important work steps in nursing care. We have created the instructions for this together with a physiotherapist and osteopath who regularly carries out corresponding product trainings in our company.

After having engaged in the lateral repositioning last week with the help of a slip-sheet, this time we are talking about the horizontal repositioning:

Preparation of the resident

• Both the resident’s legs are positioned
• A sliding sheet lies under the pelvis and shoulders
• The resident’s view is towards his navel

Preparation for nursing staff

• Both nursing staffs stand at the head end of the bed and stand offset to each other
• Your feet point in the direction of the foot end
• The hand closest to the bed grabs the sliding sheet at shoulder level
• The other hand grips the sliding sheet as close to the pelvis as possible

Repositioning the resident

Horizontal repositioning with sliding sheets

• The body weight is slowly shifted backwards, causing the resident to move towards the head end

Note

• Trendelenburg pelvic elevation (electrically adjustable on nursing beds) can simplify the procedure if available
