On our calendar page April you will find Gàinà Dorel from Romania. Gàinàs greatest passion is photography. Now 69, he took up photography as a design student thanks to the photography society at university. During the communist era, he was regarded as a revolutionary in his field and in 1990 he was appointed as the head of the department of “Photography and Visual Design” at the University of Cluj, where he teaches digital photography, installations, multimedia and electronic art as well as analog photography, Polaroid photography and B&W development. Among his students was his son Stefan, who just recently became a professor himself and will soon take over as his father’s successor.
A good team: young and old working together in a family business
They all have different wishes, hopes and aims. Does it result in generation war if young and old not only live together, but also work together? René Schwerdtel, a photographer from Herchen, Germany, traveled a long way for our 2018 portrait calendar. His photographic journey took him to international family businesses, where young and old work together, share experience with each other and enrich each other and the company with their knowledge. Minor disputes are all part for the course, but aren’t taken home to the dinner table.
