Raising residents with back problems

The work in the health service is physically very exhausting and dangerous. High weights are often moved and the body reacts to unfavorable working angles in the medium and long term with symptoms and injuries – a consequence of overburdening and one-sided strain during lifting and repositioning. By ergonomically optimizing important work steps, the strain on the nursing staff can be reduced and made more tolerable.

There are no standard situations in health care so the methods have to be adapted to each patient individually. Today, therefore, it is about the raising of the resident with back problems.

Preparation of the resident

  • Both legs are set up
  • The resident is turned in the direction of the caretaker

Raising the resident

  • The nurse’s hand lies at shoulder level under the hand of the resident
  • The legs are pushed off the bed and held by the nurse’s knee
  • The resident is supported by the hand of the caretaker
  • The nurse releases the resident’s legs and supports him during the raising
