Repositioning by a nursing staff with the aid of a sliding mat

The ergonomic optimization of important work steps and the use of aids, however, can at least reduce the burden on the nursing staff and make it more compatible.
In our series „Ergonomic work in nursing professions“ we give tips and instructions for the ergonomic execution of daily care operations.

In the past week, we described the repositioning using a sliding mat by 2 nurses. Today we show how to perform these hand movements with one caregiver:

Placement of the sliding mat


• The resident is rolled in the direction of the nursing staff
• A sliding mat is folded in the middle and placed against the resident’s back
• The resident is turned back on his back
• The resident’s shoulder is raised so that the mat can be gripped

 

Removal of the sliding mat


• The nursing staff reaches under the resident at the leg level, grabs the sliding mat and pulls it towards him
• The resident’s position is not changed
