The care of a patient or a resident for the nursing care staff is often very strenuous and stressful. This strain often manifests itself in damage due to overload, such as back and neck problems. These are caused by a combination of poor working postures and movements, incorrect use of aids, patient condition and other working conditions. But these complaints can be avoided or at least reduced by minimizing the risk factors.
In our series „Ergonomic Handles for Nursing“, we regularly present the ergonomic optimization of important work steps in care. Today it is about the turn of the resident of the caretaker away:
Preparation of the resident
• The front leg is positioned
• The rear hand of the resident is placed on the opposite/front shoulder
Preparation for nursing staff
• Both knees are bent and a distance of 10 cm from the bed is maintained
• The extended arms touch the patient at the hip and shoulder
Rotation of the resident
• The nursing staff shifts his body weight forward, his arms remain outstretched
• Rotation of the resident during lifting
• The hands are turned towards the resident
Here are again all steps summarized in a video:
