Fall prevention is one of the most important topics in the field of care. Falls become more and more dangerous as the resident’s age increases. Statistically, about 30% of people over the age of 65 fall at least once a year. For those over 80, the proportion is even close to 50%. In the nursing home, the proportion of people at risk of falling is even higher. Because, more than half of all residents fall at least once a year.
A fall does not just cause physical injury
Not every fall directly means a physical injury. Only just under 10% of all falls require retrospective medical treatment. However, other, far-reaching consequences can also occur. By being able to overthrow fear, many residents are moving back and forth, thus losing the social connection in their surroundings. This can result in loneliness and sadness among the residents.
Approaches to fall prevention
Not only to support the caregivers in their professional life, but also to give the residents confidence in their environment, fall prevention measures have been developed. One of them is the intelligent bed exit system SafeSense®. SafeSense® helps reduce the use of side guards, especially at night, to reduce the risk of deprivation. By the equipment with a night light automatic, the inhabitant becomes for example during the nocturnal toilets the orientation possible. The nightlight turns on automatically as soon as the resident leaves the bed.
In addition to this, the bed-exit system has a flexible nurse call timing and thus the possibility of adapting the time interval for communicating the nursing staff to the individual mobility gradations of its occupants.
