Whether legally permitting prowling, writing on objects in favor of longevity or grandchildren on the stationery – The following are examples from three different countries how to deal with age.
Brazil – Special rights for seniors
Retire at the age of 60 and move forward at the checkout. In Brazil, the elderly should be fine. At an advanced age, people enjoy privileges such as extra cash at the cash desk or the legal permission to move forward. The minimum age for this has been lowered from 65 to 60 years. The state shows respect by law. But also among the people there is a loving relationship with the elders. So it is also common for all generations to meet even in the hottest bars and restaurants.
China – A god with arched forehead and harness for longevity
In China, people believe in a god of long life. Legend has it that the god Shou Xing lived in his mother’s womb for ten years and was eventually born an old man with the features of a domed forehead and a long white beard. He should have the power to influence the lifetime of the mortals. At the same time, people in China enjoy using the „long life“ characters on a variety of items. By decorating crockery, furniture and, for example, handkerchiefs with these characters, they believe that longevity is easier to achieve.
Russia – the „grandson-letter partner“
Unfortunately, nursing homes in Russia are not as common a way of life for seniors as they are in Germany. In the few places there are, the nursing staff are extremely limited and the elderly are often alone and lonely. Therefore, it is all the better that there are organizations that organize and perform concerts, excursions and coffee parties together with the seniors. Another idea of a foundation is the „grandson letter partner“ action. More than 5,000 people in need of care participate in this campaign and regularly answer letters from letter partners known as „grandchildren“ and „granddaughters“. Most senior citizens write the same stories almost literally in response. It is about your past, your daughters and sons and the gratitude to the nursing staff. A simple idea that can take the loneliness of elderly people in nursing homes in Russia.
