A trend from America is increasingly conquering the kitchens: the green smoothies. Green smoothies are mixed drinks made from pureed fruits, vegetables, herbs and water. Here you can decide completely freely, which ingredients are now in the blender and which are not. Even wild herbs such as stinging nettle, dandelion or carrot greens can be added to this and, if necessary, provide for an aromatic variety. If the bitter taste of the vegetables and herbs is now undesirable, the whole thing can be sweetened by the addition of fruits or other aids. Lemon juice, dried fruit, agave syrup or honey are ideal for this. Here, as with the other ingredients, can be decided again completely freely about the amount and dosage.

Beware of unusual ingredients

However, there is one limitation with the ingredients: Fruits or vegetables, which are usually only cooked on the table, should rather be avoided in the smoothies. These include potatoes, rhubarb, beans or aubergines.

Coverage of the daily requirement

The human body should receive five servings of fruit and vegetables daily, as recommended. The green smoothies, of course, can not completely replace them. A smoothie weighing 200-250 milliliters can cover up to two servings a day. However, if you drink several smoothies a day, you’ll come a good deal closer to the guideline. Above all, the mixed drinks provide a delicious change in the supply of the body with the necessary vitamins.

The right preparatio

Similar to other raw food, the ingredients should be washed sufficiently and peeled if necessary. In addition, it is advisable to pre-cut the ingredients with a knife. This makes the smoothie even with not so powerful mixers. The larger pieces should be added down and the finer pieces above. This creates a largely uniform pureed drink. If the drinks have been finished at will, they should be consumed quickly. This prevents the oxygen-sensitive nutrients from breaking down.
